Concrete & Foundations

Everything starts with a solid foundation. From residential footings to commercial pads, we pour concrete that stands up to Alberta's demanding climate and lasts for generations.

Foundation Expertise

A foundation is the most critical element of any structure. Done right, it provides decades of trouble-free support. Done wrong, problems compound over time—cracking, settling, moisture intrusion, and structural issues that are costly to address.

At The Renovators Inc., we understand the soil conditions, frost depths, and water table challenges unique to Southern Alberta. Whether we're pouring a basement foundation in Calgary clay or building on rocky terrain near the mountains, we engineer solutions that work for your specific site.

Built for Alberta Conditions

Foundation work in Alberta requires understanding our unique conditions:

  • Frost Depth: Footings must extend below frost line (typically 4 feet in Calgary area) to prevent heaving
  • Expansive Clay: Many areas have clay soils that expand and contract with moisture—proper drainage is critical
  • Water Table: Some locations have high water tables requiring sump systems and waterproofing
  • Temperature Extremes: Concrete must be poured and cured properly in hot and cold weather
  • Slope Considerations: Mountain and foothill sites often require stepped foundations or special engineering

We handle these challenges every day and engineer appropriate solutions for each site.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to pour concrete?

Late spring through early fall is ideal in Alberta. We can pour in colder temperatures with proper precautions (heated enclosures, blankets, admixtures), but it adds cost. Extremely hot weather also requires special handling.

How long does concrete need to cure?

Concrete reaches most of its strength within 28 days, but early curing (first 7 days) is most critical. We ensure proper curing conditions regardless of weather.

Do you handle foundation repairs?

Our focus is on new construction, but we can assess existing foundations and recommend repair specialists if needed. For additions, we tie new foundations properly to existing structures.

What about ICF vs. traditional poured concrete?

ICF costs more upfront but provides superior insulation (R-25+), reducing long-term energy costs. It's excellent for basements intended as living space. We can help you compare options for your project.
